Sometimes, being a famous pop star had its advantages--even though she really didn't consider her style of music to be true pop. Her fame had gained her a room in the Hilton downtown, even though they had sworn up and down that they were booked for the next two months before she'd given them her name and they'd realized who she was. Normally, she didn't play the pop star card, but in this city? She would clue that card to her forehead if it meant keeping her off the streets.
Which made her wonder why she was wondering them now.
"Stupid sense of duty," she muttered under her breath, directing her gaze momentarily to her wrist and glaring at her morpher.
It hadn't been so bad back in high school, especially when your homeroom teacher was a Ranger as well and could excuse you from other classes and even school itself. Kira couldn't remember how many times they'd run to the museum to get a fossil sample for Dr. O--calling him Tommy was still a little weird--grading papers for him, on a last minute field trip, or serving detention. He'd even told Principal Randall one time that the four of them had all caught mono. Of course, none of those were true, for they were, in actually, out fighting Mesagog's minions.
She smiled and shook her head at the memories, nearly colliding with someone during the laps in her attention span.
"Whoa!" The singer exclaimed, halting abruptly. "I am so sorry. I'm such a spaz sometimes, wasn't watch--"
"Wasn't watching where you were going," a voice accented with a growl finished for her. Kira didn't like the sound of his voice and couldn't help but ball her fists and spread her feet out just a little, her Ranger instincts kicking in.
The man didn't say anymore, but turned and Kira was stunned to see that the person she'd spoken with over the boards had been right. There were vampires in Los Angeles! Part of her felt it was absurd, while the other half reminded her that she was a Power Ranger and had seen far stranger things. Like a mad scientist who's DNA had been spliced with that of a dinosaur and wanted to plunge the Earth back into Mesozoic Era.
...okay, so vampires were perhaps a bit more logical-sounding. Just a little.
"Let me guess," Kira said, speaking before she had time to contemplate her words, "I'm dinner? It's a bit late to be eating. You'll spoil breakfast."
The vampire obviously didn't like teasing and made a waving motion towards the alley at his left, drawing a crowd of others out of the darkness to stand behind him menacingly. They grinned, almost as one, and began to steadily approach her.
Fuck...
"Well," she said as she raised her fists and dropped in to a full-on fighting stance, "if that's the way you want to play, fine by me."
The lead vampire lunged at her and she easily darted to the side and avoided him, throwing a few good kicks at some of the others. It wasn't hard fighting them off, especially with the martial arts knowledge she'd gained over the years. After all, she'd had the rare pleasure of being trained by two Rangers who's powers had been bestowed upon them by Zordon himself back in the early 90s--Dr. O and Adam had taught her well.
Though, not even with her skills, she couldn't fight off this group by herself (it seemed to be getting larger...where more vampires coming out of the alley?) without morphing. She moved to do so, but the lead vampire got to her first, taking the opportunity to kick her square in the chest and send her flying into a wall.
Kira's back collided with brick and she groaned in pain, letting herself drop to her knees as she braced herself on her palms, looking up just in time to see the lead vampire's foot flying at her once more...
