"Of course they're not happy, Eve. The Senior Partners are used to being the see all, know all and you managed to help me out right under their noses," he laughed, shaking his head. "Glare huh? Was it the disapproving, 'I'm Better Than You'? The heads tilted up, looking down their noses?" It seemed like a fitting pose for the mighty balancing force.
"I am." He took another drink before leaning forward to set the glass down on the desk. "It isn't where I expected to end up. Then again, why make plans past a couple of months? You live life right, your plans will end up changing anyway." Or become moot point with death was also an option. "I don't like conforming to expectations."
Lindsey leaned back, stretching his arms over his head. He gave no evidence to her last statement. "So what are the Senior Partners up to these days? Building a new Circle of the Black Thorn? Plotting economic domination? Staring down at all of us and wondering if smiting wouldn't be the easiest way to go?" He didn't expect any kind of an answer to the question but it was conversational.
