"Seen what? Done what?" Claire questioned, expression dead serious, the questions themselves not sharp or judgmental – more quiet, defeated. "You did see it, what you were able to see. We all saw something was wrong, we all knew we were all seeing it, but we all also thought if we did anything big about it, we were gonna lose him. Asking him about things just made him get pissy and bitchfaced and lie for a long time. And then me and Dean faked being a bad guy on the boards just to cover up for Sam, but instead of more lies, Sam turned around and started in on this crazy stuff that wasn't him at all."
She hadn't exactly intended to reveal the internet subterfuge done while Faith had been gone, but she also wasn't going to cover it now that it was out.
"It wasn't that we didn't see something was wrong." She gestured in the general direction of the Winchester house, more based on the mirror connection location than actual geographic direction. "It was that we had no fucking idea that he would do this. You're not psychic or telepathic. Slayer senses and instinct, yeah, but that wasn't going to tell you he'd gone so far off track he'd drink blood."
She slumped down on the couch, shaking her head slightly. "I mean, honestly, think about what would have happen if we had been more in his face about it. He'd have done what he did to his mom, said we were the reason he wasn't around because we pushed too much, then run off and told Ruby. Then Ruby wouldn't have been sloppy from being so disgustingly smug and overconfident and we wouldn't have ever known anything."
Not until it was far too late and the damage had been done permanently.
