"Did I mention I was happy to hear you were switched back to you?" The valley girl was a new level of beffudlement that Eliot never wanted to deal with again. "Unless you're into pain, it never really is." He stayed back on the pavement surrounding the hole as Buffy took her shot, watching it roll into the hole. Then he was up again.
"You know, if less people weren't in so much damn denial, they'd know how lucky they were to have you. Could teach a basic self-defense class around escaping vampires," he suggested as he focused on lining up the shot, eyeing the hole. Same principal as knife throwing, just different equipment. "So you don't get a paycheck from that detective agency you work for?"
The part with Faith he remembered. He'd avoided talking to her over the boards until it'd been said she was back to normal. The ball hit, it rolled across the green and sunk in the hole, easy as anything. Picking it up, he stepped over the partition and moved towards the next one. He caught her arm movement. "Guy acting like an ass?" he asked. That was as far as he'd pry. Personal information was personal for a reason.
At the next hole, he stopped and leaned against the little stand that existed for the sole purpose of holding score cards. "Yeah. Love does seem to be more miss than hit anymore. If you're lucky, you'll find the other that loves you as much as you love them and get your fairy tale ending."
It didn't take Sophie to realize that just by the subject being discussed, Buffy had had her fair share of relationship problems. Given what she was chosen to do, he wasn't surprised. The more difficult and dangerous, the less likely it was of finding some normalcy. "I got that one," he replied, idly tapping the putter against the sole of his boot. "I haven't had anything serious in a while."
He half smiled, looking down. "Hey, if I didn't want to hear it, I'd tell you to shut it," he said. "Mysterious is good for survival." The tapping stopped and he spun the putter through his fingers. "Eliot really is my name, I was born and raised in Kentucky, and I don't like guns. Short range of efficacy and too damn easy."
