Sam planted his hands against John's chest and shoved him away after being shaken around like he was some sort of toy. It wasn't a gesture that Sam had appreciated and it showed, bright as day. "You don't know what you're talking about," Sam said, anger finally spiking through in his tone. "You have no idea what I'm capable of! Just like you have no idea what her blood is doing to me!" He narrowed his eyes, a glare quite unlike the traditional version that John was likely used to receiving. The traditional was generally challenging and defensive; this one was cold and arrogant. "Don't you get it? I was weak. Afraid. I couldn't do anything to make a damn difference in this fucking city and now - well. Now they're scared of me. All those demons. Those stupid fucking monsters are afraid and they can't touch a goddamn hair on my head. And you know what? I like it. I like knowing that they'll think twice before coming after us. Because despite what you may think, we are going to be safe. Maybe not forever, but long enough to live more than two weeks at a time without worrying about which of us going to end up in Hell next."
Faith. He'd find her, later. Explain everything. She'd be upset now, but that was only because she didn't understand. Sam would make her understand. She had to, didn't she? He was doing this for her too.
He turned, eyes flashing off toward Castiel yet again. Except it wasn't Castiel that Sam immediately felt his gaze upon. It was Dean. The son of a bitch had knocked his fucking brother out! Sam's fists tightened at his sides. Ratting them out, putting Dean down, treating him and Ruby like they were nothing? Especially Ruby, the one that he claimed to love? No. There was a line, and Castiel in all his angelic glory, had officially crossed it. The wings were intimidating and, yes, they did inspire an outward flinch from the Winchester. However, when it came down to it, his fear of those wings and what they represented in contrast to how badly he wanted to get Ruby out of there so that he could get some more of that blood made him shove that fear aside.
"If you were going to smite me you wouldn't have brought everyone here to turn it into a show. That's the farthest thing off of your to do list and we both know it." Sam's glare intensified. "Get away from my brother, Castiel. And let Ruby go. Don't test me." This was the last warning. Angel or not, if he didn't step away from the two bodies he towered over now Sam was going to show them all exactly why drinking Ruby's blood was so very important.
