"Fuck no." The last thing he needed right now was another betrayal to work through. "I just meant it took Dubenich to nudge us towards becoming a team. Once in a blue moon kind of thing." And it had taken Sophie's greed to almost destroy the team but he wasn't about to voice that out loud.
The frown deepened. "You spent two days with no sight. It just went and returned like flipping a switch?" That in no way sounded natural. The broken bottle of booze he didn't find quite as tragic. "And you're all right now?" He resisted the urge to lean forward and wave a hand in front of Nate's face, just to make sure.
He held up a hand, ticking his answers off. "Those Senior Partners started randomly switching people with their alternate selves. Guy I picked up some bouncing shifts for was replaced by someone who wanted to wipe out humanity. Helped his girl get something to take care of that. Friend of mine got swapped for a valley girl. Brought my number of dusted vampires up to four." He lowered his hand.
"And I thought since I hadn't seen you in a while, might as well make sure you hadn't been swapped out for another version of yourself. Maybe one with no problem putting me in jail." He shrugged. "I don't think you were singled out so much as luck of the draw."
