She seemed really disappointed at the concept of her alternate self being petless. It made Sam wonder how the real Faith really felt about it all. Did she still want a dog? Why had she never gotten one before? Sam frowned thoughtfully, tugging at his jacket again. God, it was so cold outside.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Sam watched the vampire carefully before he began to follow her out to the truck. He got about halfway to his own side of the vehicle before catching sight of her face shifting through the glass. Sam froze in place, heart stopping.
Ignore it, ignore it, ignore it.
Teeth clenched tightly, Sam looked away, taking a moment to himself to work at suppressing the pained expression that had leapt across his face. Clear as day. It wasn't her. Faith wasn't a vampire. She was human. She still had her soul. And I'm going to save her, he decided, drawing in a breath. The next time he turned to look at the vampire feeding on blood through the front window, Sam was carrying an expression of determination. He pulled the door open and slid into the truck, reaching for the ignition. He just wouldn't look at her.
