The answer, the niceness of it though he had answered sincerely stung more than she knew it could, and more than she'd let on. This wasn't fair, this couldn't be why they'd thrown her back here, to let her meet him again and remember how she felt, but watch him having moved on. He'd thought it was love. Then he'd met Cathy.
He sat down casually as ever and she could still only look out the window, she didn't like this, any of this, the emotions, the weakness she percieved in herself, it wasn't a good feeling and Eve liked when things felt good, when things were easy.
And the very idea of what he was suggesting, it wouldn't feel good.
"No they won't" she blurted, of course not knowing if he was going to be switched, not knowing if the Partners had a plan or a system, or anything like it. But they wouldn't take Lindsey, they couldn't, they'd sent her to tempt him back hadn't they.
Was she even still doing that job?
"They can't do that, it'd be a mistake" she decided, still not looking at them, because she knew if he was taken she'd tear the firm apart looking for the loophole that would get him back, she'd go begging to Peter Petrelli herself if she had to.
She'd get him back, the man who didn't love her.
She should just try to get him back, just a hand on his shoulder like old times, comforting, relaxing. It would make them pleased with her. That should be what she wanted.
