The glare received a cocky smirk before the guard disappeared with the waiter on Eve's command. Some people just were not as intimidating as they thought they were. "You never know around here," he muttered before another piece of steak went into his mouth. He had to admit that it was a damn good meal.
"You joined my team. I guess I was persuasive." Which was why he didn't drop the notion of helping Eve get free of her employers. If she was really fully committed to the cause, she would've turned him in to them the moment he let her in on the plan. Instead, she helped him. "You showed that you were not under Wolfram and Hart's control."
He speared one of the roasted potatoes on the plate. "No, Eve, I don't pretend anything for Cathy. She knows very well what kind of guy I am and not only does she accept it, she loves me for it," he stated, looking up at Eve. "She has never once tried to 'change' me or get me to 'settle down.' In the same way, I would never try to 'change' her either."
He fell silent for a moment as he chewed the potato and swallowed. "I'll never fit this side either, Eve. That's part of being one of the grey. You never really fit in on either side of the line."
