"This is a different world than the one I've known my whole life," Cathy replied simply. And that was that. She supposed that Eve was right, that she might have felt differently about her 'calling' had it actually answered when she picked up the line...but for the time being, she was content with her life. More so, she was proud of herself for having the courage to move on in this bizarre city.
"There is nothing you could tell me that I don't already know," she informed Eve, feigning perfect confidence. She had the suspicion that it was the truth despite her husband's growing persistence to open up on the subject--she knew the man she loved, could read him like a book even when he wasn't talking. "But I would appreciate the return to professionalism."
She bit back the return accusation, that it wasn't herself who had brought up anything at all. Eve had taken them in that direction initially, and Cathy had the feeling she knew it, too. Allowing the other woman to get a rise out of her would only cater to exactly what she wanted. Turning on heel, she gestured for her to follow, heading into the kitchen.
