She figured Sam was off with Faith somewhere, maybe at the Hyperion, and he was happy, it was doing him good, and keeping everyone from thinking she was as completely obsessed with him as they all seemed to say, as apparently Castiel had suspected.
Sam had said it was likely Castiel didn't trust her, and the thought bothered Ruby more than she would ever let on. She wasn't doing this to hurt him, or to hurt Sam, or anyone. He needed to become as powerful as he could, he had to become as important as she knew he was. She was walking, just walking and thinking and hoping that everything would go as she wanted because that way was best. That way was the only way. She could hopefully make them understand when Sam had reached that point, when they could see the power he could tap into. And now that he'd agreed to speed things up, now that he'd agreed that it needed to happen? It would be sooner than that.
She'd picked up some fries and now was walking through sleazy LA alleyways picking at them and trying to work out a way that everything could be okay. She was hardly scared of the things that might attack given what she was.
All she wanted was for them to understand why she was doing what she was, but explaining her reasons would be stupid, she could only see it ending badly. Castiel would never forgive her, and Sam...How could he understand.
And she was still always always suprised by the fact that she cared what they thought.
