She chuckled, nodding greatfuly at the compliment. "I was lucky to get in the cockpit, to be honest. Things were different back then- a woman had to work twice as hard to be thought of as half as good. The boys in the squadron would'a been fine with me as second-in-command, but they would'a taken too much crap from everyone else," she said with a shrug- she had no bitterness against her old team mates, or even most of the other men she fought alongside. There were a few crude comments from a few soldiers, sure, but a sock to the jaw always shut them up and put them on the level
"And there really wasn't a whole lotta structure anyway- there were only eight of us, after all. We were there for the cause, not to climb ranks."
She took another sip of her drink before speaking again. "I ain't really sure what a Gul is, but by the way you said it, sounds like a high rank. Have to admit, I didn't get to work a lot with the high brass types, but I got nothin' but respect for a fella who devotes his life to the service of protectin' his country. Or planet, in your case, I guess."
