"Maybe it was about time they did. The heroes, claiming to be the unselfish bunch that they are, work to save other lives from whatever is threatening them. Most never quite realize you have to be a little like the enemy to win the day," he said, thinking out loud. It wasn't in defense of Angel, or his crew, but an accumulation of what he'd observed the past few years of his life. And maybe in part to see Eve's reaction.
It'd be a lie to say he still wasn't tempted by all that W&H had to offer. He'd said once that he was addicted to power, encouraged by the experience of being powerless. But he was constantly watching, learning, and for now, he had balance.
"I know it's a challenge, Eve. And knowing me like you do, you know I just don't back down," he replied. "And what I do could say so many things to you. But there's going to be no hints from me."
