Re: Fireworks set up & launch!
Dean liked nothing better than big family moments. He'd spent most of the day with his son, and felt pretty confident that he'd likely given Ben the best birthday of his life, and now he was arguing with his Dad about how they should do the fireworks. It wasn't a real arguement as much as something to pass the time, a debate that would likely lead to them both laughing in the end.
"No, no, Dad, you've got it all wrong. You have to build up to the big bang at the end...get all these little ones out of the way while everyone's still getting settled, then we'll start with the big ones. That..." Dean pointed to an almost comically huge rocket that promised to light all of the colors of the rainbow across the sky. "Goes last since it's the best. "Or....we'll set them all up at one time, hear one hell of an explosion and run back to the house before anyone comes to see."
Dean smirked. He was only half joking, because he wanted to give Ben a good, long time of fireworks, but he knew Ben would appreciate the later option more than anyone. A huge explosion, an 'epic' fireworks display, and a story he could impress chicks with for ages. Dean was just thankful that Ben was with Claire, because he knew if Ben heard the 'let's set everything off and run' option, he was pretty sure the kid would go for it.
Dean's gaze drifted over to Claire and Ben. Mary was walking over there, and he paused for a minute, just staring at them. It was amazing how well Claire fit in, like she was part of their family rather than just a family friend. It was little wonder the waitress made the mistake of thinking Claire was part of Ben's family, because the companionability she had with the boy, the way she fit so well at Dean's own side...everything about them spoke of a traditional family.
Never one to think about traditional things for long, Dean turned his attention back to the fireworks. "So big at the end, or all at once, Dad? Which way's it gonna be?"
