What did she mean? That drinking her blood would instantly give him energy? Make him less exhausted? The idea of her blood serving as a caffeine boost probably would have amused him if he wasn't so busy looking over at the vampire again. She had seen everything, but there wasn't anything that she could do about it. She was going to die. That was the end of it.
"Yeah, they would." He'd personally deliver the baby to the front desk. Pull a disappearing act when no one was looking. He knew the policy at the hospitals. They would make him stay until they figured out what to do with the baby. Sam wasn't exactly looking to do that. It'd be a drop and run situation. He didn't want to be too involved. Not when looking at that basket had triggered bad feelings inside him on sight.
Standing up, feeling a lot better than he had a few seconds ago - his own injuries didn't even seem to be bothering him by much anymore - Sam carelessly stepped over the vampire, almost as though she were a bit of trash in the street that he didn't want to dirty his shoes on, and started back to the ladder that would take them back into the house. "Come on. I don't wanna leave it alone for too long."
He didn't get to the ladder. Not before the vampire, in a hoarse voice, strangled out a slow phrase. Slow, strangled, but loud enough for him to hear.
"What...are you?"
Sam froze, back turned to both the vampire and Ruby. He stood in place quietly for a long moment. Rather than responding, however, Sam moved forward and started down the ladder.
