Wait, what? What did she just say? What was she saying? This conversation wasn't supposed to go like this! He was supposed to babble, then she was supposed to pat him on the shoulder and tell him that it was all right because he was delirious and crazy anyway. Not this. Sam certainly had not expected to hear those words come from her. Not here, not now, not ever.
"You're...?" She was way too close to him. Telling him that she loved him, half dressed, just out of reach. What would any logical person do in this situation? Shaking his head a bit, trying to clear some of the confusion out, Sam lifted his head from the slumped position it had been in and looked her over. Faith had been in agreement with his statement. Fuck, she'd even had one of her own. At this point, what little hope that he'd had toward being found was beginning to fade away entirely. Sam had no doubt that his family would find them. He just didn't know when and with the air getting so thick that he was drawing in ragged breaths, Sam had decided that when they did arrive, it would likely be too late.
It was even worse, he decided, finding out that she felt this way about him right before they were both about to be taken from the world. A terrible pang of emotion hit him then, followed by something warm and damp trickling down the side of his face. It wasn't sweat. Not some wave of heat. Just a part of him, showing how horribly torn he felt about all of this on the inside. They had fallen for each other and now they would never know what it would have been like if they had admitted it sooner. Sam didn't bother looking away. He didn't even wipe at his face to try and hide it. Instead, he chose to do what he felt was best. Forcing himself to lean forward, Sam slid a hand up to her cheek and pressed his forehead to her own. His nose brushed against Faith's as he stared her down quietly, heart beating roughly in his chest. "No matter what happens here, I'll take you," he said softly. It was all that he could say. All that he had patience for. They had already wasted time. As Sam forced his mouth against hers, Sam decided that there was no way he was going to now that they were here. It was the end of the world for them and he wasn't going to wait any longer.
