Sam seemed to be getting reminiscing on them, talking about when they first met. Faith smiled slightly, remembering it damn well. He'd been possessed and she'd been kicking his ass. Afterward she remembered talking to him, not thinking that much of it. Except she'd kept talking to him. And the talking became more personal. And before long the guy she'd been planning on pretty much dismissing after checking up on him became the most important person in her life. Her best friend. Hell, her soulmate. He knew more about her than anyone else in the world. Several worlds actually. Her eyes closed slightly as she smiled.
Only to snap open again at the rest of his words. Did he just say--- Faith froze, wondering if she had been dreaming, or if Sam had been babbling, hadn't meant what he said. But even if he'd been rambling, it didn't sound like he wasn't in control of what he was saying.
So screw being scared. It wasn't as though it mattered all that much any more anyway.
"I love you."
She'd said that before, she realized, loved him as a friend, her best friend. It wasn't enough to just say that again. She moved until she was kneeling in front of him.
"I'm in love with you." Getting the words finally out felt as though a weight had been lifted. Even if it was too late to do anything, at least she'd finally said it. She half laughed with a strange combination of bitterness and relief.
"I can't even tell when it started or what, I just knew that I wanted you, even if it was wrong. Even if it was complicated and insane and could hurt other people, I just knew. That you are my everything and I'm just completely in love with you. You're the one. The one who," she broke off with another laugh, remembering their drunk conversation. "Who completes me, who understands me, who accepts me despite everything."
She moved closer until she was almost sitting across his lap, reaching out a hand to run down the side of his face.
"So we're getting outta here. You hear me? We're gonna hold on and we're gonna be ok because I don't accept any other solution. And besides," she smirked. "Now I wanna go to that restaurant."
