Sam had never quite encountered the firestarter before. He'd been tempted to go out and find her more than once, but this was the first time ever that he had really seen her in person. She seemed arrogant, which wasn't very surprising at all. Most of the bad guys usually were nowadays. He figured it was like a competition that they had with each other or something. Who could be the better smartass while pissing the good guys off. So far, she wasn't doing a terrible job of it. There could have been a bit more work on her execution, but sending out dozen upon dozen of vampires had definitely made up for the lack of wit on her part.
Noticing the sudden change in Faith's stance, Sam defensively straightened himself out and glared at the masses ahead. There were too many. Between the two of them, they couldn't possibly take down every last one of them, now could they? He didn't know what Faith had meant by 'it's them', but Sam figured that it couldn't have been anything good. He pulled out his gun and stepped forward, already taking aim for the first approaching enemy. The bullets never were very useful against these kind of bad guys, but if it'd keep a few back while they took on some of the others then he certainly wasn't going to complain. Gunshots rang out multiple times, bullets speeding their way toward the various vampires that he had fired at. The second one got too close, Sam slammed the barrel of his weapon into the side of it's face. It stumbled back and he decapitated the vampire easily. Dust scattered.
Three more were turned to ash before Sam was able to see Faith again. A burst of anger licked at his insides the second he caught sight of her current position. Surrounded, injured, and fucking trapped.
Throwing an arm out, Sam dragged a pair of vampires back, clearing off a corner of the group that surrounded her in hopes of breaking the little trap that they had created. While doing so, another pair grabbed him by the shoulders and dragged him back. "Get off," Sam grunted, pushing back the one to his right, only to receive a sharp blow to the face from the other. Another vampire replaced the one that he had tossed away and he soon found himself pinned in place all over again. Before Sam had the chance to toss them away again, a third figure grabbed him roughly by the hair from behind and dragged him down, slamming his face into the pavement. Sam's vision instantly blurred, a sharp rush of pain erupting throughout the side of his skull. He tried to reach up, hoping to use his abilities to get the vampires off his tail so that he could rise back up and find his way to Faith, but his focus was jacked from the blow. He only managed to push one away before being hauled up and punched in the side of the head all over again.
"No," Sam growled, "No!" He had to get to Faith. If he didn't, they would kill her. "GET THE FUCK OFF!" Like that was going to help. His vision began to blur as something hit him upside the head yet again. They weren't holding back on the blows. He couldn't focus. Things began to darken, even as he cried out and struggled against the dozens of vampires holding him in place. There was only one thing that he could think about; only one thing that he cared about. Not himself, not the stupid vampires, but her. He had to get to her. He had to protect her, he had to...
Another punch to the face was all that it took. His body slumped over and everything went black, only one word lurking on the surface of his mind as he blanked out completely.
