For all intents and purposes today should have been an easy enough of a day for Ethan; or as easy as one could have being a detective. And maybe easy wasn't the correct term to use; maybe the best word to use would be predictable. So for all intents and purposes today should have been a predictable day. Ethan and his partner had gotten a lead on the location of a suspect they had been trying to catch for the past three days now. No sooner had they gotten the lead, they were in the vehicle driving to the location.
"I hope this lead is right. I've been waiting a while to catch this son of a bitch." Ethan's temper was just a little on edge, probably because of the headache that he had earlier that day.
"Hey, I'm sure it is. Look we'll catch this guy; bring him in for questioning."
"God, I hope you're right." Ethan groaned as his hand rested on his forehead briefly.
"How's the headache?"
"Could be better, look are we almost there?" Ethan asked, his voice on edge.
"Yeah, we can park over there, wait for the guy to show up, and nab him."
Ethan simply nodded his head. Once parked, the two kept an eye out for their suspect, and when they didn't see him after an hour they almost left. But Ethan had opted not to leave, and about five minutes later the two of them caught site of the suspect. "That's our guy!" Ethan exclaimed, quickly exiting the car, and making his way towards the suspect.
"LAPD, Freeze!" Of course that never worked, because as soon as a suspect knew that the police were after them, they hightailed it out of there. This suspect was no different, and immediately took off. Ethan chased after him, managing to keep a bead on the guy, but not quite being able to catch him. The chase was a straight one, with the pursuit leading them down three city blocks. Past that third one, Ethan noticed the suspect making a right turn. He made that turn as well; noticing that this street went into an incline. The suspect had opted to run on a lawn that went above the street. Ethan pursued him, but soon lost track of him.
"Son of a bitch!" he growled. He proceeded to examine every corner, and nook and cranny that he could.
It was while looking down over the edge that the suspect came out of his hiding spot and raced over to Ethan to shove him over. Ethan's partner had made it just as the guy was about to push him. "Stop right there, and put your hands in the air!"
The suspect didn't listen; he pushed Ethan; Ethan found himself rapidly falling to the ground; and he heard his partner open fire on the guy. Ethan landed on his back in front of several concerned onlookers. The fall had been about two stories, but Ethan just groaned, and immediately picked himself up. His back was a tiny bit sore, but other than that Ethan was perfectly fine. He ignored the group of onlookers and immediately made his way to his partner.
"Ethan, what the hell happened? Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. What happened here?" Ethan looked past his partner and at the now obviously dead suspect. The two of them proceeded to follow the protocol in this type of situation, and none of them spoke of Ethan's fall.
