WHO: Ruby WHERE: A rundown apartment downtown WHEN: Late evening/night day after Faith's grafitti WHAT: Sam needed someone to take the fall for the demon he killed. RATING: High STATUS: narritive; COMPLETE
There was nothing she wouldn't do for him. Sam needed someone framed, some idiot demon to take the fall for killing another one. TLhis world and its demons, they were nothing. They were wastes of space from what she had seen so far, Ones like this most of all. Trying to fit in. Trying to be normal and live happy little normal lives. They weren't normal. That was sort of the point. But at least one of them would get to go out doing something worthwhile, protecting Sam.
She'd aways keep him safe from those who would want to hurt him, or worse, take him away from her. Even if it meant doing things that a demon with remembered humanity should have balked at. But of all people John Winchester understood it best. She remembered the feelings, the emotions. But she was what she was. What hell had made her. And that was why she stood now outside a bar looking through the window at the poor son of a bitch she'd chosen to die.
It hadn't taken her long to find him. His name was Brilik and he was scum. But he was scum with family. She'd stalked the demon from his home to one of those bars, watched him for a while till he'd really started to drink. And then she'd put her plan in motion.
A mate, a wife maybe, human, and two little half demon kids. Family and love did funny things to people, here it even did funny things to demons. He'd die for them, And, she thought, as she broke into the house her eyes landing on the woman, the kids playing unknowingly in a room down the hall, he would have his chance to prove that he would.
She quietened the woman pretty quickly. There followed the usual begging, asking why, why them. She didn't seem to like Ruby's answer that she'd picked Brilik out of a group. He'd been talking about his kids and she'd known he'd fit the bill. Ruby told the woman why she would loose her husband, about the Boy King. But the risk would be too great that she'd tell in revenge. Might have to kill her anyway down the line. Really the less the kids knew about the whole thing the better. Sam had said find someone, frame them, and thats what she was doing. In the best way she knew how. She knew people cared about stuff like this. Families.
She didn't enjoy it, she thought, prepping a locator spell with the woman's household ingrediants. She would know if Brilik ran or tried anything other than her plan and his family would die.
It grated at all her remembered humanity more than a little. She knew what Castiel would think which is why she had so completely protected herself from his sight tonight. He wouldn't see why protecting Sam from this was so important. And because she loved him, she didn't want to have that arguement. Didn't want him to have to decide what side of the debate he fell. Besides its not like she was having fun.
Enjoying it would have made her no better than Azazel and she was nothing like him, nothing like any of them. But she would do it nonetheless without a seconds hesitation. Because Sam had asked it of her, because he needed it.
It was an hour later when the demon arrived home. The woman ran to him, eyes brimming with tears and Ruby could tell the very second his considered attacking her.
"I wouldn't try that if I were you. Unless you want them to die needlessly" she told him, eyes shifting to black as she turned toward him, it was easier like this, easier to give into what she was, just for this. She needed that callousness. "That demon, the one that died in a bloody mess in an alley yesterday. That was you. You killed him. You tore him apart in a turf war. You'd do it again to anyone who messes with you and yours. In a heartbeat, You'll go to a bar I name and you'll attack the owner, kill him if it comes to it, make it look convincing, make it look like you've lost it and when you die at the hands of my Sammy and his Vampire Slayer, thats what you'll go to the grave saying. You did it. All of it"
The knife was out again as she spoke running it along the neck of his wife before sliding it across his arm. The blood, his blood the key to this particular locator. Brilik did nothing. Nor did the wife. They'd gone past the point of trying to attack. Her black eyes had given her away, she was the only demon now in the city of her kind as far as she knew, black eyes out with a Hunter with her, killing seemingly indiscriminatly, causing fear, terror even. Their reputation was known. Brilik agreed. Not with any words he nodded just once and the woman broke down into tears all over again, the demon doing his best to comfort her.
"You won't hurt her, you or that murdering son of a bitch?. I do this, they live?"
"Yes." she confirmed "You screw up, you try to tell the Slayer that he'll have with him, you try to warn anyone. I'll know. I'll know right away no matter where you are and so will he, and your pretty little wife, the kids they'll die. And we won't make it quick either."
"He's with the Slayer?" he asked, eyes widening in shock, how close was this guy to the people at that Hotel. The people like Lehane who'd promised protection as long as they were on the level.
"Oh yeah, got her wrapped" she told him with a smirk, this would throw Faith completely off their tail, and the woman and her brats, they wouldn't dare talk about it again, if they were smart they'd hightail it out of town. Ruby'd put them on a bus herself. "Now, cause I'm nice. You have ten minutes to say your goodbyes. Then I give you an address,"
She could see the hope fade, all the ideas he'd had, all the plans, she could see everything fall apart behind his eyes. No this wasn't pleasent. But it had to be done.
The woman still thought to bargin, to deal, even asked her why she was doing this
"...wrong place wrong time" she said flatly. "And I'm not someone you want to be talking deals with" Not proud of her actions. But knowing there was no other way.
At the appointed time she sent Brilik to his death at a nearby bar, texting Sam a few minutes later, She made the wife and kids stay in the room with her, grateful almost that none of them said a word to her, but not liking the cold stare of the human woman. She'd never come back for revenge, she was too weak, and she wouldn't leave her kids without parents. But she just watched her. It made Ruby uncomfortable. More so.
Still she couldn't pack them out of LA till she was sure, till she'd heard from Sam that the demon had done his thing and died taking the fall for what they'd done. Died to protect them from people that wouldn't understand it. But they'd see. They'd all eventually understand.
