To end up in the middle of a park at night after just accepting Doggie's recommendation to becoming the Red Ranger was, to say the last, not exactly part of Sky's plan. His plan had been to throw a party. Or go shopping since he'd need a new wardrobe to go with the new rank. How would one prepare for this exactly? Sky looked around at his surroundings and suddenly felt very cold. "What the hell," he said with a frown. Where was he?
This hadn't exactly been part of Jack's plan either. But he had no choice in the matter thanks to a wormhole, and by now he'd accepted it. As annoying as it was to be back in some primitive time, some city that was exactly opposite of New Tech in every way. As little as he fit into New Tech, he felt like he fit even less into L.A. Jack didn't really question it much anymore, except lately the Powers had been reducing the number of his friends by the day-so he'd started again with the questioning. Wondering why he was there, if there really was a reason. He'd found nothing, and he was frustrated. So he left his temporary apartment for patrol. There was no use sitting there mulling over it anymore. He was there, that was how it was. It didn't look like he was going to be one of those to be sent back any time soon, so it was useless thinking about it all. It would just make him more miserable. He rounded a corner and cut across a busy street . The park wasn't that far away. To get to his usual patrol route he needed to cut through it. But he stood at the sidewalk and eyed it for a few moments instead. Looking down the street instead, Spike's club in the other direction. Was this war really worth fighting for? While Jack debated over what to do at the crossroads, it took the vampires no time, no thought, to know that dinner had arrived in the shape of a young human man. They came seemingly out of nowhere from the shadowy cover of trees at the sound of a voice they mused "Isn't it past your bedtime, boy?" There voices hissed, pearly fangs barely visible in the darkness. There were three of them, approaching quickly.
Sky wandered for a bit as he checked his SPD morpher for any signal of the other rangers or Doggie, but there's nothing. At least at first. Eventually, though, there's a bleep that catches his attention. His brow furrows. Sky suddenly finds himself lost but the sound of snarling and growling pierced the air. So does a familiar voice. Sky followed the voice and found... "Jack?" His lips thinned. His eyes widened when the...monsters glanced at him and hissed. Oh this so wasn't normal.
The vampires looked confused what was that guy talking about? Oh well. It didn't matter what the food was talking about. The youngest vampire approached. Lips curved into a toothy smirk. "'Fraid not..but come along for dinner, you won't have to worry about him long. I'm sure your friend will show up sooner or later. " The vampire reached for Sky's wrist and wrapped its bony fingers around it. Yanking him in close with force and eying his neck. A bleeping noise caught Jack's attention. One he hadn't heard in so long he almost thought his morpher was broken. Maybe it was..and he had just been thinking so much about Sky lately-he heard what he wanted to hear. But still, he couldn't just ignore it. Pulling the delta morpher from the inside of his jacket pocket he raised a brow and flipped it open. "....Ranger energy?" He murmured off offhandedly and started to follow the signal. It had to be malfunctioning. That was the only reason, but even still..curiosity killed the cat.
It only took a moment for Sky to snap back to reality and slam his elbow into the vampire and wriggle his hand free. With a wave, he projected a shield that knocked the vampires back as they attacked. "You picked the wrong night to mess with me, buddy," he replied and took his fighter's stance. Oh he was so going to enjoy this. What planet were these things from?
"Gotta be a glitch.." He frowned as he lost the signal in the middle of the park. He saw nothing. No sign of life..most people in this city knew that when the sun went down, They better be indoors. Inside someplace safe. So he wasn't too unnerved at the lack of movement, in fact he was pretty relieved. People were learning. That the talk and rumors-weren't just that. That the threats to their lives were very much real at night. The vampires were sent back to the ground into eachother as Sky activated that shield. "No more playin around. " They snarled and lunged him all at once instead.
Sky jumped up and spun, kicking the three vampires in the face. Their recovery time was quick, though, which didn't bode well for him. It meant that they had a healing factor he didn't. He tried to match them punch for kick, but he ended up taking a mean kick to the chest which sent him a few feet into the air and against the trunk of a tree. Sky groaned. This? Was not good. He struggled back up to his feet and pulled out his morpher. "SPD Emergency," he shouted. A little extra fire power wouldn't hurt. At least until he had a better idea of what he was dealing with.
Shaking the morpher a little as Jack stood in the middle of the park, it bleeped to life again. The energy reading was off the charts. Matched his own. Then he heard it. A voice. Not just any, one that he had been hearing in his dreams for the past week. "..Now you're really losing it. " He shook his head in disbelief at the item, and looked up. Blue light flooded the lining of the trees. "..No way. " For the first time in months he felt a glimmer of hope. He was hesitent, scared even..what if he followed the light and sound and it was just his mind playing tricks on him. He took a chance and a breath, running towards the sounds. His eyes leveled on the scene infront of him, The energy tracking signal pointed dead ahead. All Jack could do was watch with eyes wide The vampires on the other hand, didn't even notice him. They're attention stolen by the man now in blue and black. They rushed again.
Sky dodged the punches and the kicks and managed to grab one of the vampires by the end and slam its face into his knee. Sky then kicked him in the gut and sent him sprawling back. The other two vampires stared at him and glared - not quite sure what to make of this newly uniformed kid. So, Sky took advantage of the situation and took out his blaster and shot at them. Luckily, they weren't lethal blasts, but they were enough to make them howl in pain and growl at him.
"Need a little help?" Jack's voice came from behind. Just like when he first joined the squad-late. And showing off. Some things never changed. It wasn't his fault, It'd been nearly a year since he'd seen Sky, the one he considered his partner so he was allowed a moment of shock wasn't he? ...Sky would probably have something to say about it later..but that was then. And honestly he welcomed it. A lecture from Sky..he never thought he'd say this but he missed them. Missed him. Morpher back in his pocket and a stake in hand instead. He shook his head a little as he watched them whimper and regroup, he decided it was a good time. "Can't let you have all the fun. " He mused as he stood on the other side of the range. It was rare that he morphed these days-but anyway these were just vampires. Nothing special. So when they got up to rush again, he knew exactly what to do. He drove the stake at the creatures with an impressive spin to it's heart and smirked as it exploded into dust.. At least it was obvious Jack hadn't just been on vacation. His skills were sharper than ever. Maybe even more so than when Sky knew him. He'd seen his fair share of apocalypses since he'd been there and lived to tell the tale, so it was no real surprise.
"Jack what the hell are you doing," Sky shouted, his eyes widening. Had Jack just stabbed someone? He took a few startled steps back as the vampire turned to ash. His world was spinning. Hadn't they taken an oath to protect life in all its sentient forms? Seeing Jack murder someone was... What? He wasn't sure.
"Saving you. What's it look lik-woah!" He winced as he hit the ground, a vampire had caught onto his distraction and took advantage of it. Knocking him straight to the grass and pinning him there. Jack struggled for a half a second before lifting a knee straight into the vampire's stomach. Wiggling an arm free he elbowed the vampire across the face and it fell to it's side forced off balance. Jack didn't waste a second, he reached for the stake he'd dropped when the vampire pinned him and stabbed. He could only imagine the things running through Sky's mind. He didn't even want to look up until it was done. He had a second to catch his breath as the second vamp was dusted. The tthird looked on like someone had just kicked it's puppy or something, and Jack knelt there for a moment. He knew there was no saving them, but Sky? Sky probably didn't. Why did he know that?..because he thought the same thing the first time he ran into a slayer. As pathetic and alone as the last one was, Jack couldn't just let it be, It wasn't fighting, it wasn't even moving toward him..but he had a job to do. That was to watch Sky's back and that was what he would do, the last one watched and broke into a run at him. Jack staked it, dust falling into the air. He finally looked back at Sky and gave a half smrk. "What took you so long?"
Sky wasn't entirely sure what to say. He subconsciously depowered into his SPD Uniform and stared at Jack in disbelief and horror. For a number of reasons, really. One, he'd just murdered 3 sentient beings and two, he was still in Red, which was rather annoying and so very unfair. "You killed them," he finally managed to say.
"..Sky..." He frowned a little and looked up. "They were already dead..there was no saving them. They weren't human. They never can be again. " That was the first thing he'd learned, the first thing he'd learned when he arrived. He even tried for sympathy..though it was hard to come by these days..while everything felt like it was falling apart. "They were vampires. "He didn't know how to sugar coat it-and seriously doubted he should. " Sky listen to me..this is important, what's the last thing you remember about home?"
Sky stared at him. "Did you drink the mindfuck kool aid?" He quirked a brow in that oh-so-familiar Sky Tate way when he encountered something that was...well...really stupid. "Vampires?" Sure, it made sense, but they'd seen all sorts of aliens that were like creatures of myth. Even still, a sentient being was a sentient being. He wasn't entirely sure what to do with 'already dead' when they'd so clearly been thinking and acting. Vampires. He was so distracted, he'd almost missed the last question. "I was about to take your morpher," he said suddenly frustrated beyond the telling of it. "What the hell are you doing here, anyway?"
Jack frowned unable to help but feel a little disappointed with the way this was turning out. But what was he expecting a tearful reunion? Tucking the stake back into his jacket he watched his partner and raised an equally annoyed brow and folded his arms. "Look I know it's crazy, but is that so hard to believe? Sky...,we fight aliens. With giant robots. You can't even for a second think outside the box that theirs a slight possibility that vampires are real and very much with the blood sucking?" Take his morpher? He sighed and ran a hand through his dreads "Lets get out of here unless you want them to come back, with friends. " He started walking back towards the street. "I'll explain on the way. " He made a face as he beckoned Sky away from the vampire infested park back towards his apartment.
Sky was hesitant to follow since apparently he'd somehow ended up in some bizarre parallel dimension. But it was Jack. So. "Fine," he said, and followed him, though he hoped he wouldn't regret this later.
