Sam shot her an exasperated look. "There's a small number of them that I'd willingly keep around. We both know that already." Because Ruby was in that number. In fact, she was the sole occupant. Sam didn't have much trust for demons personally. Ruby, however, could stay. Taking his drink up, Sam shrugged. "I'm being strong 'cause someone has to be. For the right reasons." He hoped. He was tired of being weak. It wasn't like he planned on running around taking over the world or something. Sam just wanted to be able to protect his family and people. People needed protection. Especially around here.
It looked like she was concerned. That was a good thing. He wanted to point out that her humanity was showing. He enjoyed it whenever it made a grand appearance. "Sure. We can change the subject. But if it gets in too deep, I'm gonna ask you to to go. You need him." That said, he took another drink and looked away. He wasn't going to pretend to fully understand what was going on with Ruby and Castiel. Not really. How could he? But if there was something there, something like love, then he knew that he couldn't be the one to tear that apart. He refused. Love was hard to come by. Real love. Sam had learned that firsthand himself. Wasn't going to ruin it for anyone else when it came along.
