"I know this is disorienting...you don't seem to be the first person who has been drawn here," Diana consoled her. "I'm not from here either, although it is so close to my world as to be nearly indistinguishable." She knew she couldn't leave Ella to fend for herself out here; if she wasn't even aware of California then it stood to reason she would be unfamiliar with most of the Patriarch's World culture and manners.
"For now, I am staying at a shelter, which is not too distant," Diana started, trying to gauge Ella's reaction to that. "It's open to all women, and there is food and a place to sleep. Also, I can show you the library down the street....the computers there can be used for free, and you might be able to contact any friends through them."
