She was slowly but surely starting to get used to the world that she might very well be trapped in until she died, which hopefully, would not be soon. Knowing that she had nobody left back in her own time might have been one of those things that helped her take in everything without fear or a strong desire to get back to where she had initially come from. Her Watcher was dead. He’d lied to her all along, had wanted her only to work for the kind of people who never truly appreciated her feats. In his eyes, she was a failure, and in the king and queen’s eyes, she was likely to be looked upon in the same unappreciative manner. It was a true pity, but she wasn’t about to weep over the loss. They were nothing to her anymore, and she’d get over them in time.
Silent and pondering, she followed behind the girl, toward the kitchen area and away from the entrance. Mathilde grew bolder and pushed her upper body away from the slayer’s gingerly, causing Marie-Christine to lower her onto her own two feet. When the child touched the floor she reached out, took her hand back into hers and led her onward. A comforting smile was offered to hopefully show the little girl that everything was alright, and then she was looking straight ahead.
The other girl began to speak and she listened patiently, despite being anxious to hear what she had to say. Mathilde let her eyes wonder, unable to understand the language spoken and more intrigued by the sights. In passing she reminded herself that she’d have to teach Mathilde English, if only the more important words. It would come in handy when they were separated.
Asking about who or what could be at fault for the displaced was at the top of her things to ask, but hearing about the vampires pushed those questions away. “There are vampires who aide you?” She asked the question and her voice was hurried and taken aback all at once, like she’d never heard of anything like that before. “The one I spoke to did not seem terribly bad, but I have never heard of vampires who are willing to… to work alongside humans. And the two you speak of are not fiends?”
