Even now, Nathan wouldn't take the credit for how the world had changed, because he'd only played a part in it, a part he wouldn't have played if it hadn't been for her.
"No, because of you," he said, leaning in to kiss her forehead before pulling back to listen to the rest, which in the end made Nathan smile despite the seriousness and weight of what she said before it. That pain, of losing Noah Bennet, wasn't something he could take away from her because in the end, a parent couldn't always protect their children. Not even Bennet.
"I can see where your mother might think that about her," he said, the expression a soft sort of nostalgia, but nothing more. That had been a very different chapter in his life and they'd have never worked long-term, but Nathan could appreciate Meredith's strong points.
"And you're right – both of you, all of us, have to remember the positives that come with people being pulled here, even when they were pulled back.
