"No, I can't imagine you would," he replied. "But at least I know that I have someone who would be willing to pull it out on the off chance someone manages it." He tilted his head lazily, too content to really move much more than that. "I have, since I met you. As cheesey as it sounds, knowing you has improved my ability to be more than just charming."
His expression sobered as the subject became more serious. He didn't want to think about the ower that had brought her here taking her away, back to where she came from. Not after the life they'd built together, the connection they'd made. "Not much does," he replied, unsure of what would be consoling or even the right thing to say in that situation. "We don't know why they choose who they do or why they send away. Just that they can and will."
He reached up to take her hand. "But they're not going to take you away from me. I won't let them."
