"You underestimate how far the smell of something burning can travel." It was an automatic response but after he had said it, Lindsey was all too well aware of the reasoning behind knowing that. Not wanting to dwell there, especially not with the rest of the night and nothing to do but relax in front of them, he pushed that line of thought and memory back in mind.
"I don't jump on you for popcorn," he deadpanned. "I just steal it." He did have to admit that there were days when dog and human seemed to be of a similar mindset, as scary as the thought could be. He'd long since excused it as the dog was smart enough to try and imitate what he learned from him and Cathy.
His arm slid around her shoulders, the bowl balanced on his lap as her arms encircled his waist. "I hope so," he teased her, "or else that shower was just a waste of my time." Her lips on his neck stopped him from saying anything else, his mind going to fuzzy static as she grazed a spot there. A quiet, approving grunt followed.
Until his dog made his presence known and nearly knocked the bowl out of his lap as he appealed to Cathy for a stomach rub. Lindsey quickly caught it and gave the dog an annoyed look. "You got her all day, pal. It's time for me to have a little quiet time with my girl." Cerberus's tail wagged as he stretched, still not moving. "Damn dog."
