Zinda looked far too thrilled to be speaking to someone who 'spoke her language' as it were- at least, someone who wasn't a patient in a veteran's hospital, or an 85-year-old trying to show her his war tattoo- and asking if the rumour about hers was true (it wasn't- she never had, nor ever would have the words 'Kilroy was Here' on her backside, thankyouverymuch).
"The 'Hawks weren't anything official, which is... prob'ly why I got to fly with 'em at all, not that it was easy convincin' 'em to let me," she shared, grinning wide, suggesting that there are perhaps a few stories in that alone. "Freedom fighters. Bunch'a fellas from countries the Axis had invaded. We had Grumman Skyrockets the Navy didn't even want, and on a good day we were outnumbered five t'one. But we did pretty damn well if I say so myslef," she boasted excitedly. She was bragging- she knew she was bragging, but she was too caught up in the nostalgia to really care if she came off as cocky.
