"Maybe," Castiel conceded with a small nod, watching Ben closely. It was difficult to know exactly how to handle the situation. Talking to mortals was sometimes difficult for angels who saw things in such different terms. When you've seen all of eternity stretched out, when you witnessed the Creation itself, it could sometimes be difficult to explain the concepts of good or evil or the thousands of shades of grey in between to someone who couldn't understand.
Ruby had a part to play. That much had been obvious for a long time. A demon helping a human, a human who had demon blood but used it to hunt evil. It was unique. And Castiel was in many ways lost as to what to do.
So trying to put it in terms a child would understand when he himself was confused was no easy task.
Castiel placed a hand gently on Ben's shoulder before looking seriously at him.
"The truth is none of us, not even angels know exactly what's going to happen. So we're going to need your help as well. Not just your father or your grandparents, but you too. You're Sam's family, his connection to humanity. I'll need you to keep reminding him of that." His mouth curved into a rueful smile. "And I'll try to do the same for Ruby."
