Castiel stared at him for a moment before shaking his head. "I'm telling Mary about that you know." He could have said Dean, but he suspected that the Lord's Chosen would find the whole situation more funny than anything else.
And yet the question was still out there, for reasons the angel still couldn't quite understand. He sighed slightly and leaned back against the fence, keeping his eyes on Ben. As much as part of him wanted to avoid the issue, nine years old or not, Ben was remarkably astute and deserved more than being brushed off.
"It's a little more complicated than simply a case of breaking the rules Ben," he paused, wondering how best to explain it. "Angels aren't supposed to be in any sort of relationship, because it's believed that it can distract us from what's important. I suppose, in theory, love is love and if someone feels that they can truly love two people equally then that's up to them. But for me personally?" He hesitated before shaking his head.
"No. I wouldn't engage in any activity like that. I love a great many people, in a way I love all of my Father's creations. You are all wonderfully unique and special. I especially love your father and your family and you. But the love I have for Ruby is different and that is for her alone. Does that make sense?"
