They were in for another duet. Lindsey's expression fell somewhere between embarrassed and apologetic as he fell quiet again, watching her. The song wasn't done with him yet and he was hoping the tune would at least have a happy ending. His heart was thundering in his chest and despite having more confidence than any man had a right to, he couldn't have been more nervous.
Her song gave him a little more hope, gave him back some of that confidence. There wasn't a reason to be worrying, was there? As partners, they'd gone through more than most and still hadn't even touched the breaking line. He was completely in love with this woman and yet...
He shoved the thought out of mind and gently took the hand that had brushed his shoulder. This wasn't the conventional way and the more he thought about it, the more fitting it was. Their first meeting had been because of music, that night in the karaoke bar. It was a passion they shared. It was the right moment. He knelt down on one knee in front of her.
"I've taken more than I've been given I've taken for granted this life I'm livin' And I don't know why heaven above Blessed me with your sweet love Though I never tell you what you're worth That's 'cause it's more than I deserve"
As he sang the last line, Lindsey one-handedly manuvered the small box open, holding it up for her to see the ring nestled in the velvet lining.
