"Probably as good as it's gonna get for a while," she said, staring at some invisible point past his shoulder. "Just alright."
And that was it. She could tell that part of the 'conversation' was over, and pushing it past that would've just been pathetic. It was back to him asking if there was something she wanted him to do as far as the house went, and she knew nothing more could be salvaged. She didn't necessarily blame him for that, but she couldn't help but still feel disappointed. Not that she should have expected anything else.
"No," she said again, frowning as she glanced back into his face. "And, um...look, I'm sorry. You can...you can go, I was just..." She gave a mirthless chuckle and shook her head. "Sorry." She suddenly felt another thumping kick, and she had to blink away a light sheen of tears as soon as she did.
