He head nearly reached the door when she called out to him. Eyes closing, he stopped short of the front carpet, back still turned on her. He had been hoping for a quick escape. It would have been easier to just hit and run. That was what this was, wasn't it? Come in, do what she asked of him, then run the second he got a chance so they wouldn't have to feel any worse than they already did.
