Veronica almost laughed at the irony. She spent an entire summer trying to get away from sitting down and thinking about Logan and what had happened. Now here she was, facing it with him in the same car as her. But she was thinking of that night for all different reasons. "I'm sure Bruno found his calling. We all do at some point."
And she looked at him and swallowed past a boatload of pride that was telling her, 'Shut your mouth, Veronica. Don't do this all over again'. "I um, actually I meant. .when you asked me. .you know." That word was still a sort of poison, her throat closed up when she thought of saying it. "I just. .I know we were shit to one another over a lot of stuff, but I wanted you to know I meant it. And I never. .I never said that to anyone, or admitted it to anyone else." She smiled a little. "Contrary to that little voice in your head's opinion, you were never second best."
