Mary hated to see her family hurting, and, whether Heather knew it or not, she was family now. She knew there was nothing she could do for Sam other than to make sure that Dean and John were taking care of him--that was just how Winchester men did things, evidently, they drank until their problems eased up a little and they could deal with them. Until he was home, Mary just had to trust her youngest was safe and sound.
What she could do, however, was give Heather a little bit of comfort. Heather and Sam may not be together anymore, but that wasn't to say Mary didn't still care about the girl a great deal. She rearranged the two mugs of tea she had, and looked at the door again, waiting on Heather.
