Despite the whisper, Nathan was standing close enough behind her to catch a bit of it, enough to pick up the gist. Parent skill perhaps, or just good hearing, but on hearing it, he lifted his hands to her shoulders and he dropped a kiss to the back of her head.
"You're gonna be you, just like you are now, just like you'll be after," he said quietly. He knew this meant a lot to her, but he'd still been firm about making certain she knew that it wasn't about her being 'broken' for him, it was about her being happy. Either way, no matter what happened, he'd still love her. He might not have loved her her whole life as a father should a child, but he did love her now.
