Now that was definitely a surprise. Heather expected to see a look of panic sweeping across Sam's face as soon as the amount of time they had left before finding out if the baby would be a boy or a girl was revealed. But no. He looked...different. She couldn't tell exactly what was going on in his head, but it wasn't something she thought she would witness.
"Uh, right. We'll stop by the front desk and set something else up for...?"
"I'd like you see you in another week, if that's convenient for you?"
Heather nodded, offering the older woman a smile as she leaned into Sam and began heading for the door. She tried to ignore it, but that whole mommy to be thing made her stomach jump. She didn't think that was the baby just yet, either.
"You take care."
After they'd left the small office, Heather was just too curious to wait until they were back home or even outside to ask about Sam's behavior in there. "What was that all about?" she asked, the corners of her mouth still turned upward slightly.
