That doctor was actually starting to irritate Sam. How could she be so painfully pleasant while he was standing there, feeling like he was about to hurl all over the place? What was her problem? Didn't she know that this was a seriously terrifying matter? Yet there she was. Grinning like everything was all fine and well. I'll show you fine and well, Sam thought darkly, looking off to Heather's stomach as he tried to think of some sort of reaction to give off that wouldn't offend either of the women in the room.
Not that he was looking to offend in the first place. It was just odd for him, hearing that noise. It was confirmation. There was definitely something in there and soon, a lot sooner than they thought, it would get bigger and eventually would end up right in their laps for the whole world to see.
"It's...interesting," he said, voice tight. Sam cleared his throat and forced his eyes away from Heather. That didn't come out right. "Very interesting," he tried again, going for a lighter tone.
