For as nervous and uncomfortable as Sam looked as he stood there, one would think he was the one with a whole separate person growing inside of him. Not that actually being the pregnant one was the only reason to be anxious, but that was just how tense he looked. The doctor just passed it off as regular old father-to-be nerves, and gave him a reassuring smile every now and then.
Heather watched as the woman prepared all of that...stuff for a moment, then glanced up at Sam once again. The forced smile was a little much, and she wanted to make some kind of joking remark about it, but she held back as her shirt was suddenly pushed up and something cold was smeared all over the small bulge that had been growing there.
Her gaze flicked back down after a quiet gasp had left her, and she saw some kind of goo was being applied all over her middle. That was kind of gross. Not to mention cold.
"Should have warned you first," the doctor said with a smile, finishing up with the slimy stuff and reaching for a paddle-looking thing, which she pressed down onto Heather's stomach and began moving around slowly. "Okay, let's see here..." A moment later, the screen part of the machinery was being turned on, and it was full of black and white fuzziness that didn't look like much of anything.
A few moments passed, during which time Heather squinted off at the screen and tried to make something, anything out. "Is that supposed to be...?" Heather was suddenly cut off by a sound. A rapid, thumping sound. It was a little different than what Heather was used to it sounding like, but there was no question about it. That was...
"And there you are," the doctor said, turning up the volume on the machinery a bit.
