WHO: Heather & Sam. WHAT: Hearing the baby's heartbeat. ♥ WHEN: Mid-morning. WHERE: Uptown medical center; Dr. Ferrer's office. RATING: PG. STATUS: Complete.
Initially, Heather had wondered if keeping this appointment had been a good idea. So many things were going wrong right now, with so many dangers popping up around every corner even moreso than usual. It was important to make sure things were alright with the baby, but seeing as how neither one of them were happy, bouncing parents-to-be, it just felt out of place at the time. But Heather didn't want to ignore it. That baby was important, and it had a right to be healthy and taken care of even if everything in the outside world was crumbling slowly.
Sam hadn't seemed too thrilled about the whole idea, even if he insisted on accompanying her when she told him she could go along with someone else. She knew he was still having a hard time with the whole thing, even after he'd given her that speech a short while ago over the boards. There was no hiding the worry and uncertainty in his eyes whenever the subject was brought up, however loosely. She didn't blame him, of course. She never did. She still wished things were different, though, just so there would be one less thing to be concerned about, and one more thing to feel somewhat happy about. Even up the scale a little bit.
Even though she'd just been examined by Peter, Heather wanted to keep up with the doctor Sam had found for her in the first place, Janine Ferrer. It would look odd if a young pregnant woman had one exam and that was it, after all. Plus, she wanted to be on the safe side. One nurse who was used to odd pregnancies in this odd place, and one doctor who was a professional when it came to babies in general. Thankfully though, Dr. Ferrer's findings were the same as Peter's had been. Everything was normal, everything was progressing as it should have been (Dr. Ferrer was aware of rapid pregnancies by now, even if she didn't understand them entirely either) and there were no issues to be concerned about. Heather thought that was the extent of it, before the plump woman pulled over a cart that was carrying some heavy-duty machinery on it.
Heather glanced towards Sam, a slight furrow in her brow. She didn't think he would know what that was all about, but she wanted to share her confusion with him anyway.
And then the doctor spoke again, offering them both a warm smile. "Looks like we're ready to hear the little thing's heart this time."
