Nathan was quiet after both spoke, rubbing his chin slightly with every air of a man considering. In truth, Peter's plan was the ideal one, the end result that Nathan wanted, as now that the girl had been here, Peter would know her mind's signature and be able to keep tabs on her in most places. Also, her giving up the information would mean they had leverage over her, as they could easily turn her back over to the vampires at any time. Well, at least threaten it, of course.
However, Nathan needed to offer something better than Peter's offer, to keep up the ruse that he was the less extreme of the two.
"Come on now, Peter, we can manage a better offer than that," he said, "with a show of good faith," then rose and pulled out a lighter from his pocket, bending to run the flame along the ice encasing her wrists. He wasn't as concerned about releasing her hands as he might have been in another situation, as if she tried anything, Peter would take care of her before she could do any damage and, in that situation, Nathan would have few qualms about it. It would be defense, plain and simple.
When the ice had been melted enough to weaken, Nathan cracked it with his hands and then went to work on her ankles. "Now while I do this, you tell me everything else you know – how it was done, where we can find it and anything else that will be useful and I'll not only escort you out of the hotel myself, I won't tell these vampires you're the one who helped us figure it out."
Unless, of course, telling proved necessary later. Nathan had never held much stock in keeping his word with people who tortured those he cared about.
