There was currently an upside and a downside to Claire refusing to leave. The upside was that if he didn't make it through all of this, he wouldn't have to die alone. As for the down? He didn't exactly want for Claire to die. Or himself. Frustrated, Xander took a hit to the face from the remaining vampire while Claire began to tumble with the other. The blow was enough to send Xander staggering, but he didn't take a nasty fall to the ground this time around. Blood dripping into his right eye, Xander launched himself at the vampire and the two made a painful collision with a truck that had been parked along the side of the road.
Wincing, Xander grabbed at the vampire, while his attacker quickly threw his fist into his stomach. That was probably the worst place to take a hit, but Xander took it well. He groaned, reared his leg back, and sent a kick directly toward the one place that even Xander felt dirty attacking. The kick didn't land, but the stake that Xander thrust at the vampire did. Soon enough, he too was dust. Gasping for breath, Xander stumbled back and turned in hopes of finding Claire all in one piece. He was surprised to see that she had taken one out on her own. "Wow. That was all kinds of fun." He waved his stake in the air and slumped back against the truck. "Are you okay?"
