"If Ruby was bothering you, you should have come to me," Sam told her sternly, "you should know by now that I'm more than willing to listen to you if something is wrong. And don't feed me that line about other people needing me more, because we both damn well know that I would have made the time for you no matter what it took without screwing up the rest of my schedule. That was probably the most ridiculous thing that you could have said to me, Heather, and the fact that you chose to have everyone out there get upset over what you wrote rather than coming to me right away kind of stings on my part."
He kept his gaze on her. Firm, but calm. He wasn't angry. Mostly worried. A little bit offended, maybe, but he didn't hold that by much. "We're going to get married, Heather," Sam said quietly, "and if you can't come to me when you're having problems, then I don't know how you should be able to talk to anyone else."
