Though he shook his head at the idea of ever running for office again, Nathan found another part of his heart warming at her comment. She'd vote for him. It was the kind of effortless thing a child said to a parent, which made it mean just that much more to him.
But it was what she said next that stunned him.
Claire wanted him there. She wasn't asking Bennet or Peter – or maybe she would be, he wasn't sure, but right now he didn't really care. The thing that matter was that she'd asked him.
"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," he said, tone gruff, and then pulled her to him in a tight hug for several long moments. After that silence, he cleared his throat. "But I don't really want you stuck down in the basement. Maybe... what would you think about spending time at Sarah's place for this?" Yes, even now Nathan referred to the Underground and Labyrinth as one would a townhouse or a country property, not a kingdom in another dimension. Seasoned LA arrival or not, some normalizing habits still remained.
