"I know you would," she replied softly, nodding a bit. "And the same goes for you too. What I did, staying with you and all that... I know you would've been right where I was if the whole thing was switched around. I didn't even have to think about it." They were supposed to be having fun, but she couldn't help it as the emotional aspect of it all came out as well. It wasn't necessarily fun, but it was nice and comforting to just not hold back, to let each other know how they felt about one another. They knew already, of course, but sometimes it just needed to be said out loud anyway, especially when something so important had just happened to affect them both. "And as far as doing good things to deserve each other goes, I'm pretty much just shocked to have you here. I can't think of something good enough that I could've done to have somebody like you, Sam."
As soon as Sam brought up the things he'd said, Heather shook her head. She'd told Claire that the comment about him wanting to kill her had reminded her of the kind of things the alternate version of himself had said, but she'd never been afraid of him or anything like that. She was more worried about him than anything. If she'd been afraid, she never would've gotten near him, especially being pregnant.
"Don't worry about it, Sam, I mean it. I know it wasn't really up to you when it came to the stuff you said. I just wanted to do whatever I could to make things comfortable for you until it was over."
