The drive from the garage to the house had never seemed longer to Dean. Truth be told, he made the trip in record time, both because he skipped dropping Claire off at her place and because he sped most of the way. Just the knowledge that the envelope had arrived made him drive a little faster. However, once he parked the car, and saw Ben there with the little envelope that could change everything, he wondered if he had the strength to actually get out of his car. What if this didn't turn out the right way? How was he supposed to look that hopeful kid in the eyes and tell him that he was no closer to having a real dad than he ever had been. Ben wanted this, REALLY wanted it, and Dean didn't want to see him hurt. On the other hand, what if this thing turned out the right way? Was he prepared for a kid? John started poking back a hundred dollars a month when he was born, and although life happened and plans changed, he had finally gotten around to giving the gift to his sons. Dean wanted to do something like that, to be that kind of a dad, but he was so damned far behind, and that was only the start of the 'Dad' things that he had no clue how to do.
Come on, Winchester...Take the key out of the ignition. Good. Now, open the door, nice and easy. There. Get out and shut the door...
Taking it one step at a time, and practically coaching himself with every step to avoid thinking about the big picture, which was suddenly scary as hell, Dean managed to make his way over to Ben. "Hey, Mini Me, peeked anymore?"
