Kain was taken aback at her response. He hadn't expected her to be so cold at the man's death. Not that it was a bad thing. Her statement warranted a definite response, though.
"Unless you're a vampire, or immortal," he answered. Mortanius had been around for thousands of years and he was a mere human. Janos and Vorador had been around even longer. They would probably still be active, were it not for the Sarafan, and his own...hasty decision about Vorador. As long as he avoided being drawn into inescapable traps, he would live for as long as he wanted.
He smiled when he realized she was not going to tell him what he was.
"I'll have to uncover what you are myself, then," he remarked. It was a challenge, at least. And he would find out. There was no doubt of that. Even if it took several weeks, or even months. Kain was a patient man.
"Perhaps we can talk again sometime, you and I?" he asked, taking a step towards the young woman. He made sure to keep his stance neutral, not wanting to intimidate her.
He was about to speak again when he sensed a nearby disturbance. Looking back, he saw a group of vampires next to the body he had thrown, with several more lurking in the background. They leered at him with their savage grins, twisting their human faces into something Kain supposed was supposed to be intimidating, or predatory.
"Well, looks like someone took our kill. Guess we'll have to teach him a lesson," the blond-haired vampire said, looking down at the corpse. It was obvious they knew the former man, and perhaps they had intended to kill him themselves. No matter. They were in Kain's presence now. Any idea about what they were going to do would have to be re-written.
His companion agreed eagerly. Kain knew they would attack him as soon as they had the chance. Simply because he looked different from a 'regular' vampire, he was not regarded as one of them, and was thus as much a target as any human. The split second the second vampire started to charge, Kain made his move.
Kain raised his hand and a red energy sphere appeared in it. He threw the sphere at the second vampire, his friend watching in horror as the flesh exploded off his body, leaving behind a bloody skeleton. The vampire could only gape as what was left of his companion fell to the ground.
Kain smiled in satisfaction. That spell was taxing, but it was worth it to see the baffled expression on the enemy's face. Emboldened by the kill, he charged the other vampire head on. The vampire charged him, but Kain struck first with a clawed hand, slashing down the pale vampire's chest. The vampire grunted as three large strips of flesh were taken off his body. Kain grabbed the vampire's neck and skull with both claws and brutally snapped the neck of the creature. He threw the body to the side. Whether he was dead or not, he didn't care. If he woke up, he would soon feel a lesson he wouldn't ever forget. He went after the other vampires, determined to teach them a lesson.
Kain ran headlong into the vampires, as he slammed a telekinetic wave at them. Now things were getting interesting around here...
