"Then we'll get another test," he said sharply, "we'll..." He really couldn't believe this. It was ridiculous. Heather couldn't be pregnant, because that would mean that he was going to be a father. They both weren't ready for that. He certainly wasn't. He had to go back to school first, find some kind of stability before they even worried about children. And they weren't even married yet. How could something like this happen? Just like that? Hadn't they been careful? Apparently not careful enough.
Looking rather desperate, he looked to her and breathed, "Are you sure? This isn't just a maybe? A possibility?" He was silently begging that it was. It had to be. This couldn't be real.
