"Fine. You East Coasters can keep your city's slogan and we'll just stick with the nation's mental asylum," he replied. "It's amusing how if you need to know anything lately, just check the boards for it." With sleep harder to come by than usual, when he wasn't out and around, there was at least entertaining reading material at his fingertips. Although, sometimes there was too much information. Disturbingly so. "Who needs reality TV?"
He sat up a little straighter, rubbing his jaw as he considered the question. "More on a personality than personal life point. The smart ones keep professional and private as seperate as they can to minimalize the risk of giving information that someone will use against you. And your coworkers are always looking for a way to take you down." He figured that was one of the reasons he'd risen so fast through the ranks a few years back. He'd had nothing to lose.
"Human resources is ironically run by demons." He squeezed his eyes shut, fingers pressed against his forehead. "I'll be damned if I can remember what kind. They pass for humans when they need to." Lindsey dropped his hand. "I'll have to get back to you on that one." He began ticking the departments off on his fingers. "Real estate and entertainment, I don't know. I fired both of them before I quit for getting into some interdepartmentmental war over some celebrity buying a house or something. Not important."
He paused to take a drink before launching back into his information recitation. "Research and Intelligence is run by a mousy guy named Ted. When it comes to evil, that guy is a little clueless but he's very good at his job. Like a walking encyclopedia." He uncurled a second finger. "Interment Acquisitions is run by a necromancer. He's not all that good of one but he's a people person and he's good at what the department needs to do. And the Practical Science department is run by a guy named William who happens to be terrified of me." He didn't even bother to hide the combination of pride and annoyance in his voice. "I know more about them than the employees under them but there are a few individuals who stood out. But it's guaranteed with a few exceptions that the higher up in the hierarchy they are? Personality traits are going to include vicious, manipulative, arrogant, and unfortunately most of them, that makes them somewhat stupid."
He shook his head. "It's a very well hidden, very tightly written clause," he replied, shrugging his shoulders in a manner that tried to convey he had no problem admitting it. Truthfully, even a year later, it still bothered him a hell of a lot more than he cared to admit, but because he would never admit it, he faked the nonchalance over the clause and the six months that had come of it. "Believe it or not, the firm owns its own Hell. Like you said, it is a created dimension and the only thing it shares with the religious concept is the name. As for access, like any other dimension, there is a shift in reality, like a portal, that grants access. The problem is finding it. Trust me on that one."
He snorted at the mention of Zod's favorite phrase. "The one and only. Signed client who was willing to exchange services for legal counseling in getting his son back. Drake accepted but drifted from the firm to persue his own targets. Alema did at one point, Damien hired us for legal services." He heard the way in which Heidi said Darla's name and remembering her kidnapping of Peter and the divulging of information to Lindsey, he chose to steer around that. "They want powerful individuals who are going to cause problems. The Senior Partners exist because of all the bad in humanity and the firm exists to serve the purpose in perpetuating that bad. Anyone who can assist is going to be taken into consideration. I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to approach the Joker once she got his M.O. down. Tony Montana has shown up again. Last time, someone got resurrection happy in one of the departments to bring him back. He'd be one to keep an eye on. Drusilla worked with us back when I was in Special Projects, so she'd be another one. There's no shortage of possibilities."
