Dean didn't put much stock in dreams. He knew sometimes Sammy had the psychic kind that told them where they needed to go, but Dean never did. Normally he couldn't remember his dreams, or they were about good things like pie or his friends and family...unfortunately however, lately his dreams had been plagued with visions of the hell he had left behind, and what he had done there. Sometimes things would shift so seamlessly from a big family dinner where everyone was there to a different scene, where instead of cutting into one of his Mom's famous desserts he was cutting into a poor, tortured soul on the rack and his family was looking on in horror, realizing for the first time just how awful he really could be.
That was why his current dream was such a pleasant surprise. He knew it was a dream because he was back in the little house in Lawrence, but he was the right size instead of being four. He could hear voices downstairs, Mom's, Dad's, Sam and Heather's, Jo's and Claire's, Bobby's and lots of others, talking and playfully teasing. He stretched out in bed, letting the smell of his Mom's cooking wash over him.
His feet hit the end of his small bed, and he looked down, confusion clear on his face. The car bed? He hadn't slept on that thing since the fire. It was pretty damned special to Dean, because he had insisted his Dad paint the thing black to match the Impala. Climbing awkwardly out of the bed, Dean went to the door and started downstairs, intent on joining his family. This might be a dream, but damned if he wasn't going to enjoy it.
He got to the bottom of the stairs, and he realized no one was there. The walls, rather than being immaculate and well decorated the way he remembered his Mom keeping it, were stained with smoke and fire and still wet in places. The floor was covered in a good inch of water, as though the firemen had just finished. Pissed at the fact that the dream had changed, and knowing he should have a good idea who was involved, he sighed.
"Come on out, you son of a bitch."
